18th annual Yazzy Summer Morning Mix Auditions

Theatre of the Performing Arts of Shreveport (TPA) will hold auditions for its 18th annual YAZZY Summer Morning Mix arts program, open to all Caddo Parish children/ youth ages 6 – 21. The Summer Morning Mix will begin June 14th thru July 24th. This 6 weeks cultural arts program will take place Monday thru Thursday from 8:30 am to 12:30 noon at Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy located at 2550 Thomas E. Howard Drive. Classes are available in art, dance, theater, voice, and instrumental music. This is an enrichment activity which will help students continue to be engaged in meaningful artistic activities this summer.
Participants must audition for their particular discipline, as well as go through an admission process. Auditions will take place on Saturday, June 5th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy Auditorium. All audition pieces should remain 3 minutesor less. For your particular artistic discipline, please bring the following:
DANCERS
Bring your own music and proper dance attire. Be prepared to show us some of your best moves or style of dance. (Limit your dance to 30 to 45 seconds). Be prepared to learn a small combination of steps at the audition and perform it for the panel of judges.
VOCALISTS
Bring your own music or be prepared to sing a cappella (without music).
ACTORS/ ACTRESSES
Bring a monologue (example: poem or excerpt from a play) Monologues should be memorized. If you do not have a memorized monologue, one will be provided.
MUSICIANS
Bring your own instruments, original sheet music or prepared charts. Perform an original piece of music in any genre (including jazz, gospel, classical, R&B, or Broadway tunes) or music written by someone else. Horn players should be prepared to play three or four major scales.
CREATIVE WRITERS
Bring an original writing such as a poem, play, or story. Bring copies for judges to review and discuss with you.
VISUAL ARTISTS
Bring a drawing, painting, craft, or any other type of artwork and be prepared to discuss your work with the panel.
